Legal Question in Social Security Law in California

social security death benefits

I've adopted a child who's biological father (he is the only heir), died. His father died before the adoption was finalized. He was not married to my son's biological mother. Is there a SS survivors benefit my son is entitled to? If so, can this be given so he can use this money for college when the time comes?

My practice is limited to Disability cases. I do not do Survivor cases, but Call your local Social Security Office and they should be able to help you. You can also go on Line to SSA.gov and you can submit the question to them. Good Luck
