Legal Question in Social Security Law in California

Social Security question

I applied for social security disability.

I have a hot dog cart in my name.

I am not selling or making money but it is still in my name. What should I do. I also am aware I probably will get denied and it is a lengthly process.

Thanks much.

Re: Social Security question

Hello!

First I assume that you are either ill or injured SUCH THAT you cannot engage in meaningful or gainful employment of any kind for a period of time not less than one year. This is needed to qualify for "disability." Second, I assume that you have reported earnings (Social Security wages) for sufficient period of time to meet the "earnings" requirements of disability eligibility.

Third: "owning" the cart is irrelevant to being approved for disability. If you have assets BELOW $2,000 and own a car in addition with less than a few thousands in equity, then you may ALSO qualify for SSI in addition to disability income.

I hope this has been helpful.

Respectfully,
