Legal Question in Tax Law in California

Back Taxes

notification arrived in my mail box that there was a certified letter in the name of my previous married name. I have been remarried for 7 years, have always filed my taxes including my social security number. My current husband went to pick up the letter. The IRS states I owe 4800.00 from a joint return filed in 1994 with my husband at that time. 2600.00 of it are interest and penalites. They state they are about to levy my assets. My social # does not apprear on the letter but my ex husbands does. He is currently in jail. I do not think i should pay the additional fees, and we had filed bankruptcy in 1997 including 1992-1995 taxes in that filing that were discharged in 1997. I just want to know which is the best way to handle this. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you vicki

Re: Back Taxes

Not all taxes are dischargable in a BK. First thing you need to do is call the phone number provided in the notice, or hire someone to do so.

DO NOT IGNORE THE LETTER!
