Legal Question in Tax Law in California

California National Guard Deductions Reference

Can you reference for me the sitation(s) that describe the tax deductions that are available to California National Guard soldiers?

Specifically, I am required by the National Guard to maintain a phone line at which the Natl. Guard can reach me. I understand that I am able to deduct the base cost of my phone bill as a current Natl. Guardsman. Is this true? What is the particular sitation?

I am current a full-time student attending a individual income tax class.

Thank you,

Re: California National Guard Deductions Reference

It may be true. Call the IRS for details. Even if it's true, it's probably only deducted as a "Misc. itemized deduction" only in excess of 2% of your Adjusted Gross Income...good luck!!!
