Legal Question in Tax Law in California
Delinquent Property Taxes overlooked in Title Search
On july 30th of 2003 I purchased some country property. The title search was completed and the grant deed signed by the previous owner. In november of 2003 I received a county tax bill of $460.00 for the 2003/2004 fiscal year that was paid in-full. In august 2004 I've received a delinquent tax notice from the 2001/2002 tax year and the notice also demands the taxes be paid by august 31, 2004. I don't want a lien on my property and I certainly don't want to pay someone else's property taxes. This is a problem between the previous owner, the tax collector and most definitely the title company. Should I disregard the tax bill and let the title company take care of this mess? I look forward to a responce and do really appreciate your help-Thanks.
