Legal Question in Tax Law in California
dependent??
I have an adult daughter (42), her state disability (Ca) has run out in March of this year. She hasn't worked since March of 2001. She has been living under my roof since March, 2002. I have been paying her cobra insurance since Jan of this year until it ran out this past month. I continue to pay her medications and they cost more than the cobra premium that I was paying. She is currently not able to work because of medical problems. I am her sole support, except for child support that she receives for one child. She also has another child that is 17 years old and also living under my roof. She has a minimum wage job.
My question is: Is there any way I can claim my daughter and her family as dependents on my income tax. I am their sole support.
Thanks.

Re: dependent??
You could probably take the children as deductions. If she is working, you may not be able to take your daughter as a deduction. You could probably take her medical expenses as a deduction, but it may not exceed the amount of the medical basis.
