Legal Question in Tax Law in California

Forex taxation

I understand that I need to elect some sort of favorable tax status each time I trade in the FOREX market. If so, how can I do this? My sole occupation is trading FOREX so is there a way I can do this one time to cover all my trades throughout the year?
