Legal Question in Tax Law in California

Hi

I have a question about self-employment taxes. I have been working from home for the last two years on freelance projects once in a while and get paid by 1099 from different hirers. I am planning to apply for citizenship and recently my friend told me that I have to file the self-employment taxes if I get 1099, which I was not at all aware of. I did file the regular taxes but I had no idea about the SE taxes, and neither did the tax advisor inform me of any. If I file for citizenship without paying, will I be asked about it? What should I do now? Can I file the SE taxes for the last two years now, will I have to pay any fine? I did a search on this and saw that it has to be filed every quarter of the year.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

yes, you are subject to self-employment taxe on your net business income (as shown on Schedule C of your 1040). you should file amended tax returns and pay the taxes. there will be substantial penalties and interest, which you could request that your "tax advisor" pay. it your estimated tax which is due each quarter, and which should include both your estimated income tax and self-employment tax for the year.
