Legal Question in Tax Law in California
Are there any laws requiring the IRS to process a tax return in a timely fashion? I filed an amended return for 2006 in late June 2009 and it is now almost February 2010 what gives and how can i resolve it?

If the IRS already assessed your taxes for tax year 2006 before you filed the late return, you are royally out of luck, you will owe the amount of the assessment plus interest and penalties for all time, and you won't be able to discharge the debt in bankruptcy. If the IRS did not assess taxes for 2006 prior to your late filing, and you can prove you sent it, you might get somewhere.
