What is the Statute of Limitations on collecting taxes?
Recently, I received a letter from the State of California claiming I owed taxes for the year 1981. This is 23 years ago! Is this legitimate?

Yes they can. But there may be many ways to reduce or eliminate it. California claims no limitations period.
