Legal Question in Tax Law in California

Tax refund error

I recently received a check from the CA state tax board refunding all of my taxes for 2001. The letter with the check said I had $0 in tax liability. I dont know how this could be the case and I am wondering if I am liable if they realize their error and want the money back. I have not cashed the check and Im reluctant to call the tax board to ask them. What is my legal responsibility in this case?

Re: Tax refund error

You will be responsible to repay them if they made a mistake, and later discovr the error.

Call them. Maybe you made the mistake, and you actually had no taxes. Also, check your tax return to make sure you didn't put something on a wrong line.
