unpaid lien

the city filed a notice of special assessment lien on property that was subsequently sold and then split into two new parcels and subsequently sold again, without the lien every being paid. What recourse does the city have now?

So long as the real estate purchasers had actual or constructive notice of the liens, they have received their property subject to the liens and will need to pay them. You should immediately consult your own attorney to protect your legal rights.
