Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

115 MPH Ticket

I was pulled over for going 115+ in a 65 MPH zone. I received from the officer a ''NOTICE TO APPEAR''. Can I send in a written ''not guilty'' plea instead of appearing in court?

I can't afford the ticket or the raise in insurance, and would not be able to work if I got my license suspended. Could I say that the officers spedometer was not calibrated correctly as a defense?

Re: 115 MPH Ticket

Yes you could say as a defense that the cop's speedometer was not calibrated. However, the cop will state the date on which the speedometer was calibrated. Who do you think the judge will believe?

You safest approach is to appear in court and ask for traffic school. If the court does not refuse because of the high speed.

If you want to contest the ticket get a copy of Nolo Press's book "How to Fight Your Traffic Ticket"
