Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

$1000+ Speeding Ticket

I got a $1000 speeding ticket. I am 30 and this is my first ticket since I was 17. I don't believe that I was going 96 mph, but that's what the officer told me he clocked me at. Is it true that the ticket will be dismissed if I show up for court but the officer does not? The court is 100 miles from where I live so I'm wondering if it is worth it to attend court. If I do attend court and the officer shows up, what should I do to save the most money?

Contesting the ticket will require at least 2 court appearances. The first to enter a plea and request a trial, and the second for the trial. Nolo press publishes "how to fight your traffic ticket". This is a well written book and will provide you with information about how to proceed. Trial by written statement, does not appear to me to be a fair approach. The officer does not have to present his statement until after you have submitted yours. You also do not have the opportunity to cross examine the police officer.
