Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

in accident without licence

I just relocated back to CA from DC. In DC I didnt own a car or drive. Now we own a car but I havent yet gotten my drivers licence (I have an expired CA licence from 8 years ago, when I last lived here). I was just in a minor accident. I gave the person my auto insurance info - but I think only my husband is covered, as only he has a licence right now. I dont think I was allowed to be on the policy - ? I think thats the law in CA.

What is likely to happen? (and yes, I'm getting my damn licence on Monday)

Re: in accident without licence

I disagree with Mr. Stone. Getting your driver's license will reduce the potential fine imposed by the court and in my experience your license will not be revoked. However, it has been several years since I was involved in such a case.

Re: in accident without licence

I wouldn't waste my time going to get your license on Monday, as it will be suspended as soon as the other driver reports the accident to the DMV on form SR-1 (which you also are required to fill out and send in) and they find out you were driving without a license or insurance.
