Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

Auto Hit and Run

Hit and run. Police report available. My insurance co.said, because I don't carry collision ins. on my '97 vehicle, they turned down my claim because I didn't get his license #. When he hit me I spun 180 degrees so I was facing the opposite direction and he was gone by the time I turned around. The officer suggested I would be probably be covered under the ''Uninsured Motorist'' part of my policy. I would appreciate your opinion. My damages are approximately $400.

Re: Auto Hit and Run

Your auto insurance is designed to pay for damages to third parties resulting from your conduct. Collision insurance covers damages to your vehicle regardless of who is at fault. Uninsured motorist coverage will provide protection for medical loses, pain and suffering, and wage loss. It does not cover property damage.
