How close to a street sign must you be to receive a parking ticket?

You need to give us more information. If it was a no parking between signs sign, if any part of your car was at or beyond a straight line drawn at a right angle to the sign [as a cross walk line is] it would be reasonable to give you a ticket. If you were within an inch or two, a judge will believe the meter attentent that you were illegally parked.
