Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

I recently went to court for driving on a suspened licence. Due to a D.U.I in 2002, seven years ago. The judge fined me as driving on a D.U.I suspened licence. Was he within the law given the D.U.I is past the statute of 5yrs? And to top it off on the way home from court I was pulled over ''suposedlly not having my seatbealt 5 moles back from were I was pulled over! As a result another ticket for driving on a suspeneded licence. What do I do?

Re: driving on suspended licence
Your driver's license was suspended due to a dui. This does not go away with the passage of time. Also a dui is on your record for 10 years. Stop driving until you complete the requirements to have your driver's license restored.
Re: driving on suspended licence
You can start by not driving with a suspended license, especially on your way home from court.
