Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

driving on an unknown suspended

On January 1st, I purchased a car. On the 15th, I was stopped at a sobriety checkpoint. I didn't have my license, so when I gave them my number, it came up suspended. Turns out, it was for failure to appear or pay for a ticket in 2002. I was never told that. Do I have a chance of getting out of it?

Re: driving on an unknown suspended

I am not sure what you are wanting to get out of. The citation for driving with a suspended license can often be reduced to a driving without a valid license in your possession. You would have to get your license reinstated.

If you have your original license in your possession, you have a better chance of success. The DA must prove that you knew that your license was suspended.
