Legal Question in Traffic Law in California
Fender Bender Fiasco
I got in a fender-bender about 3 days
ago. Traffic was moving slowly and I
got distracted and hit the guy in
front of me going about 8-10 mph.
We get out of our cars and he looks
at my car and at his car. And I begin
to call the cops and hand the guy my
insurance card. He says there's no
need for insurance or cops because
the damage isn't bad at all. The guy's
bumper looked a bit scraped and my
hood was somewhat bent. So we
exchanged phone numbers and went
our seperate ways.
Now the guy calls me and says his
bumper is going to cost $750. Being
new to LA I have no trustworthy
mechanic of my own to turn to. So I
guess I'll have some random place
give me a second opinion on his
bumper. But in the end I feel like
this guy is trying to scam me and I
don't want to pay him anything.
My question is... What are the
possible reprecussions if I refuse to
pay this guy anything? What would
happen if I just avoided his calls?
We have no witnesses to the
accident, no police report, no
pictures...

Re: Fender Bender Fiasco
If you don't settle with the other driver you will be sued and the cost could be much higher. Contact your insurance company and ask for a referral to a body shop. Or if you think he is scamming you then report it to your insurance company.
