Legal Question in Traffic Law in California
fender bender turning into mess
About a week ago I had a minor fender bender in a privately owned parking lot with a coworker we were backing out at the same time and dinged each other. At first we both agreed not to report it since there wasn't much damage done and we didn't want our insurance rates to go up.
Now hes coming up to me telling me that I admitted fault and that hes going to his insurance company. hes brought me estimates ranging from 1500 bucks when at the time there was no real damage done. I did not admit fault, I apologized at the time but did not admit fault. Since we were both backing out I don't think anyone was at fault, and that it will just fizzle out to nothing.
Is there something I should be doing to protect myself here? I already have one witness who can say neither party was at fault, I just want to know what steps I should take to protect myself.

report the accident to your insurance company and let them deal with this person. Explain to your insurer when there was a delay in reporting the accident.
