Legal Question in Traffic Law in California
Hit and run
I was parked outside of my girlfriend's house when a car slammed into the rear of my car. I was in her house when it happened and noboby was really able to identify the license plate number of the vehicle. We got a brief description but that was it. A neighbor tried to follow the vehicle but he was unable to catch up. When the police finally arrived the first thing they asked was if we needed a tow and they basically told me I was screwed. We knew which way the vehicle was headed however the police refused to look for the suspect since nobody was able to get the license plate number. I later come to find out that my insurance would not pay for the tow let alone the damages. I tried following the suspect's car route the next day but nobody seemed to be able to show me footage of the streets (there were cameras facing the street from many apartment buildings and a liquor store). I end up having to PAY the towing company to keep my car! So who is liable for everything? Does it simply come out of my own pocket or should I sue my girlfriend??? lol just kidding. What can I do legally?

Re: Hit and run
Unless you can find the hit and run driver you are screwed. A private investigator might be helpful in finding the driver.
