Legal Question in Traffic Law in California
HELP! Can I go to jail for a warrant and outstanding fines...
IN TRAFFIC COURT:
If I have outstanding fines in excess of $6,000 and a warrant due to missing court dates, is it safe to go to traffic court and tell them my situation, without getting arrested?
I don't have any money, I work full-time and I'm a part-time student and can't afford to do community service. At this point, will the Judge be willing to waive the HUGE late fees and fines, plus give me time to make payments?

The first step would be to determine exactly what charges and warrants are outstanding. Then plan your next step. Which should probably be to set the outstanding matters on the court calendar. If you arrange to appear in the court action taken by the judge will depend upon several factors. The facts of you case, including the reason that you failed to appear and the changes in your life will be considered by the court. Whether or not the court will reduce some of the penalties is difficult to say without more facts, and the name of the judge. It is quite probable that the court will work with you to pay the amount of the fines and penalties. Certainly you have a better chance of reducing the penalties and avoiding jail time by goint to court rather than waiting uintil you are arrested.
