If the parking space is in a private lot and the space you park in was assigned to that business for its customers. I would think the business owner could sue, but the damages to him would be so small and difficult to prove [how does he know it actually prevented a customer from coming in and buying in what amount] and economically not worthwhile [he losses half a day in Small Claims Court] that allhe might do is call the police to give you a parking ticket, but I am not sure they could do so. The parking lot owner has to turn control over the lot to the police.

If you are parking at the curb of a public street, except for restaurant'sand hotels that have received formal approval from the public entity to use that space, the owner can not prevent use of that space.
