How long can the police department detain someone?

How long can you be detained at the police department for a misdemeanor?

Typically, you must be arraigned (where you plead guilty or not guilty) within 48 hours of arrest. If you are not released on bail and you do not waive your right to a speedy trial, the trial must commence within 30 days of arraignment.
