Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

I paid way too much for a first time offense of driving while on my cell phone. However I feel that I would be better off getting my money back and going to court instead. Is that still possible even after I paid for the ticket? what other option do I have to get some money back or to get it dismissed?

I don't know why you think you paid too much. The amount you paid was set in the bail amount in the notice you received.

The fines on any traffic ticket are always increased by "penalty assessments" (aka taxes) that make even a small fine jump to well over a hundred dollars.

If you've already paid the ticket, your options are limited. You could try to contact the court clerk's office and see what can be done, but you may be out of luck. I can almost guarantee they won't refund a portion just because you think it's too much.
