Legal Question in Traffic Law in California
Question
I received my Violation Info Notice for not wearing a seatbelt-first offense (in Orange County CA). Does a "bail forfeit" of $160 sound right?
So my "bail forfeit" is $160 and if I do a "traffic class" the cost would then be $210 plus I'd have to pay for the online traffic school class-an additional $17-$20 from what I've seen thus far. This seems to be a bit harsh for a first time seat belt offense (driving 35 mph down a city street) doesn't it? If this is a 0 point violation then why would I want to take a traffic class anyway?

Traffic fines in California are insane and oppressive and if I were a member of the Assembly I would vote to lower them. The extra $20 is worth it if it keeps your insurance from going up.
