Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

rear-end collission

My question involves a minor traffic accident in California. Couple a days ago I was involved in a 3 cars accident(I was the 3rd driver). I understand that if you hit another car from behind you're at fault. I want to know if they are exceptions to the rule, since this accident was caused by the first driver? All three cars were driving approx. 40 miles/ hr on the ramp up hill towards FWY entrance. As I approched the Fwy & I saw the ''Stop & go'' light wasn't on( light traffic) & the Suv in front of me increased its speed, I did the same ... Then the car in front of the Suv suddenly stopped in the midle of the transit lane cause a chain accident. She stopped 6 to 10 feet after the initial entrance light( which again was not on at that time);when I asked why she stopped, she said she got confused.First 2 cars were large vehicles(truck&SUV), and all they got was a scratched bumper, Icar have a 2 door sport car and my hood is bended, the light and right front side are damaged. Police came, no tickets were issued, we are waiting for a report. I am fully insured, but I do not feel that this was entirelly my fault. Do I have any chance to prove that the first driver is actually responsible by not paying attention to the traffic light?

Re: rear-end collission

Report this to your insurance company. The sudden stopping of a driver for no reason can be the cause of the accident.
