Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

I received a letter last week from the LAPD Central Traffic Division which states a traffic collision report involving me or my vehicle was filed. The letter instructed me to go down to the station in person, bring the letter and the vehicle with the license plate number referenced on the notice. The last traffic collision I was involved in was in 2008 and it took place in Long Beach. This TC was resolved through insurance. I do not like the idea of going down to a police station without knowing the circumstances of why I'm being asked to come in and speak to a LAPD traffic investigator. How should I handle this? Will the police eventually come knocking on my door? The last statement of the notice reads, "Failure to appear may result in a warrant being issued and your vehicle impounded." Sounds like an intimidation tactic to me. Thank you for your time.

Do not go to the police station. Do not speak to the police, at all, not one word. Have your lawyer deal with them. Sounds like there was a hit and run and your license plate number was involved.
