Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

Hi, I received a traffic citation for running a red light. This happened 300 miles from where I live. I had a court date set. On the day of court my car broke down and I was one hour late. I did go into the court but they had already called my name so I was not heard. I believe I can beat this ticket. I went to the clerks office and explained everything. They told me the only thing I could do is to motion the court to set another court day so I can be heard. What kind of motion do I write, a motion for a rehearing, or reconsideration? I missed two days work, drove 600 miles. Does the judge want to see some receipts showing that I made it to court? Thank you

Gee, and you probably could have hired a lawyer to appear for you for less than the cost of driving 600 miles (including the value of your time). This is still true. If you were wise and got something with the court stamp on it from that date, give it to the lawyer.
