Why would a person have to appear in court for a speeding ticket?

When you signed the speeding ticket you promised to appear in court. Your failure to appear results in a misdemeanor violation. In most cases involving a speeding ticket you only have to post bail, and are not required to appear in court. If the speed involved in your case was exceptionally high you may have to appear in court. The court clerk may be able to tell whether or not you need to personally appear or can just forfiet bail.
