Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

I got a ticket like a month ago in Santa Clara County division. I crossed the pedestrian cross walk while a pedestrian was walking.

I got the court date and appeared before the judge. He ordered me to pay $220 fine plus driving school. But I am a 20 yr old full time student and unemployed. And there is no way I can afford that much money. I requested the judge on the day of my appearance that I am unemployed and I am a student and if he could give me community hours or something else than the payment. He refuses to listen to me and said "thank you; you can leave now". I am wondering if there is any alternative to this to escape the payment and appeal for something else including doing community hours.

Thank you in advance.

The judge always has discretion to allow you to something besides pay a fine, but it's not mandatory.

You can arrange a payment with the court based on your ability to pay. You'll have to work with the collections department of the court where this occurred.
