Legal Question in Traffic Law in California
How much time do I have to report an accident?
I got into a car accident yesterday which was not my fault. The driver who was at fault wants to settle without insurance and I went to get an estimate from a car shop, also my mechanic told me that it was a total. Now she wants me to take the car to her mechanic which is somewhere in Inglewood, while I live in Hollywood, so I would need time to go. How much time do I have to report the accident in case she decides that now she does not want to pay? I was trying to be nice, but her husband keeps calling me and is trying to intimidate me, so I am also wondering if I shouldn't just inform the insurance and get it over with?

Use your insurance, that's what it's there for. Report the accident or you risk losing coverage. Also report the accident to DMV on form SR-1 within 10 days so you can keep your license.
