Legal Question in Traffic Law in California
Traffic Violation & License Renewal
My license was suspended in May 2002 due to a traffic ticket I received in the previous year. I appeared in court and made payment arrangements and sent in the payments. I have not received any further notification from the court, so I assumed that everything was clear. Since then, I have gone to a different insurance carrier and came up clean on my driving record. However, I went to the DMV today to renew my license and was told that I have an FTA and FTP under the Van Nuys Superior Court for $1191. I no longer have the documentation showing payment of the fines. What can I do to clear up my record? I have to have an abstract from the court in order to renew my license. Thank you!

Re: Traffic Violation & License Renewal
Take a copy of the abstract to the DMV and see if that clears up the problem. If it does not then go to the clerk of the court and show the clerk the abstract. If the clerk cannot solve the problem request a court date and explain the situation to the court. Do not drive to court to see the clerk or the judge. The police often wait at the court to issue citation to individuals in your situation.
