Slow down first. In California, they cannot offer you blue book. They have to offer you fair market value. To learn how to get the most you can, you should email me at [email protected] for my report on total losses.
As to whether you can keep the car, you can, if you want to, but I always tell people not to. Unless the car has some special significance to you, you should let the insurance company take it and sell it.

The insurance company is buying the car from you. If you keep the car you will have to pay the insurance company for the salvage value of the car.
