Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Adoption Fee Waiver

Hello there,

My brother and his wife were unable to take care of their baby and my husband and I took her in as our own when she was three months old. She is now nine years old. I filed an Adoption Request. Everyone consents to the adoption. I contacted the Social Worker who appeared to have a very bad day. She said I have to pay $2950.00 for social worker fees if I want to adopt her. I don't have the money. Is there a fee waiver that I can ask the court to review or grant? What would this petition be called? Please help me as I don't have the resources. I love her and she is my daughter. Both of her birth parents want me to adopt her. Please Please Please advise if you can.

Re: Adoption Fee Waiver

You have to file an adoption proceeding. You can apply to proceed in forma paupera in the court proceeding. You will have to provide financial information. You can ask the court for an order that will allow you to proceed in spite of your financial straits.
