Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Beneficiary needs assistance

Trying to complete the petition to unblock account-reached age 18 in 1999-difficulty obataining information re status of acct. Former atty to whom the deposits were to be paid thru for deposit into acct has retired. Have all paperwork, incl court/atty forms indicating inheritance, however, the banking information is unknown.Would the court have record from former atty as to bank, etc? It has been 6 years trying to aquire even the little information obtained, and would like to resolve this once and for all. What happens to an attorney's obligations, such as this one, when he retires and beneficiary is still a minor at time of retirement?

Re: Beneficiary needs assistance

The attorney should have transferred the file to you, or another attorney, or if no one else, the California State Bar. You can check with them to see if this was done.

However, you'll probably get a quicker response by checking the court's file, which should have the account information in the accountings that were required by law. If you run into more dead-ends, you can try contacting the attorney, who is required to keep his information with the state bar current--you can find his current info at www.calbar.org (the California State Bar's website).

An attorney can also do this for you, but if you have the time, you may be able to do it yourself--start with the court's file.
