Can you chage your beneficary after your divorce in the state of California?

Yes, assuming that the IRA, retirement plan or life insurance policy with cash value was dealt with in the divorce, simply contact the administrator or life insurance company and ask for their change of beneficiary forms. If you are changing the beneficiary from your former spouse they may ask for verification of your divorce, and if so, give them a copy of your final decree.

You can change your beneficiary at any time you wish. Just make sure that if you change your beneficiary you change it on all documents such as insurance policies, bank accounts, trust accounts and your will or living trust.
