CA laws governing executors

As the designated trustee of a California revocable living trust, What are my legal rights to review the trust, prior to the serviving spouses death?

In most circumstances, none. Because the trust can still be revoked, the settlors retain the right to keep the trust private.

From a practical standpoint, I suggest you speak to the settlors. You can always say that you are uncomfortable accepting this responsibility without knowing what you are getting into. The settlors might let you see the trust, because they want to know whether or not you will serve. If you will not be able to serve, then they might want to pick someone else. Perhaps they will agree to let you see the trust.
