What is the California Law for securing unoccupied property? Must the property be secured?

There isn't a statue per se as much as it is common sense and common law liability. If you don't want people moving into unoccupied property, you should have it locked. If children get into the property, and get hurt, or find something that hurts them, you could be sued for maintaining an attractive nuisance.
