how do I cash my dead spouses checks. can I put them in a joing account as deposit only and than obtain the money after a couple of days

yes, you can probably deposit those checks into a joint account. Just keep in mind that the funds may be subjects to claims against your spouse's estate.

Does your deceased spouse have a will? How much are the checks for? What is the source of the checks (ie wages, gift, etc). These are all important questions. You should speak with an attorney before taking or keeping money to which you are not entitled. By the way, negotiation of a deceased person's check may be a fraudulent act.
