in changing a quit claim deed from a single person to a married person should your put "in common" after the joint names?

Probably not. It is possible to take title as husband and wife, as tenants in common.. but, it is more likely that you would want to take title as Joint Tenants, with the right of survivorship or as husband and wife as community property with the right of survivorship.
You should not attempt to do this by yourself. Since there are various methods of holding title and each has a different tax and legal ramification, you should consult with an knowledgeable real estate and estate planning attorney...
