Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

compensation for companion care

i was companion, cook, driver, food shopper, house cleaner to my father-in-law after my mother-in-law passed away for about four months........if i kept my hours would i get any compensation from this. My wife has dpoa now. I never received payment as i thought we could not pay a family member but we did have to later hire a companion for him as he got more demanding with time with his senility..More angry too....

Would I just wait and possibly get reimbursed later. or just forget it. I really did not expect to get anything anyway but I was informed the possibility by a friend I could perhaps get compensated for my time.

thanks

Re: compensation for companion care

You should be able to be reasonably paid for your time and services. With the durable power of attorney, your wife should be able to pay you, but be sure to keep it reasonable.
