Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Compensation for Trustees

Are Trustees (who are also beneficiary's in this case)able to get compensation for their time/trouble from the Trust they are administering and if so, do they need all of the beneficiary's to consent to this compensation?

How is it agreed upon if consent is required?

What is customary?

Thank You.

Re: Compensation for Trustees

If the trust does not specify, or says "reasonable compensation," then the Trustee can pay himself/herself/itself the prevailing rate without the beneficiaries' consent. In California, the rate is between 1/2 to 1 percent of the value of the trust assets each year, plus expenses.
