Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Compensation for Work & Security - When do I have to move?

Mom died and the house had thousands of dollars of deferred maintenance (roof, dry rot, paint, a/c, kitchen, bath, carpet, etc.). I moved-in and spent countless hours making repairs to the interior, exterior and landscaping. The neighbors were ready to call Code Enforcement because my brother allowed the front yard to become an eyesore, devaluing the area. I also had to donate or discard moms property. This was very emotionally taxing. I paid utilities during occupancy. Am I entitled to be compensated for providing security, making repairs, doing maintenance and distribution of moms property? How much time do I have before being forced out? I've lived here 15 months. Thank you.

This can depend on a number of factors. Did she have a will or trust? Do you have any siblings? Is the mortgage paid up to date?

If she had aditional assets, beyond those you had to donate or discard, what are the value of these? You will probably need to start a Probate as any estate valued at over $100,000 requires one (and there is rarely a home valued at less then that amount).
