Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

A contractor of ours hired a sub-contractor with our agreement to perform electrical work. We ended up receiving a bill for 700$ for work that should have been no more expensive than 200-300$. He claims that he put 6hrs of work into adding a wire which should take a reasonable professional 1-2hrs MAX to do. Do we have any basis to get some of our money back or are we screwed. PS: We're not interested to go against our first contractor since he's been nice and he's as surprised as we are about the bill. Do we have any ground against the shady electrician?

From what you state, technically the duty to pay the sub-contractor lies with the contractor as he hired him and should have supervised him. It will be more effective for him to demand a correction in the billing than you as your contractor can estimate the amount of time it should have taken. Do not worry about his having been nice; it is a business and he should have supervised the other man.
