Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

I am trying to get a copy of my Mother's Will. She passed in '87. I have called the Ventura County Records Dept. (Ca.) and they referred me to the Probate Dept. Couldn't find anything about wills nor could I find a phone number or contact email. Do you have any ideas? C. M.

Try the website for the Venture County Superior Court, then look for Probate. There should be a phone #. Or if you are nearby go in person.

Was a Probate even opened for your Mother? If not, then her Will may have been accidentally thrown away or perhaps her attorney has the original. Figuring our who her attorney was so many years ago might be difficult as the attorney may be dead or retired.

If your mother's will was probated, the will would have been lodged with the court, and would be in the court file. You may want to start your search for the probate case here: http://www.ventura.courts.ca.gov/venturaMasterFrames18.htm

I'm not sure how far back the court index goes for probate matters. If it is not in the index, you may have to contact the Ventura Superior Court archives, to find the probate file.
