death of a parent

my father passed in california, and i live in washington state. was told he had an attorney but his present wife has yet to divulge the name. what or how can we the children of our dad find anything out?

You can find out by filing a probate and obtaining letters of administration. Don't wait.

I would add that you should check with the County your Father passed in, and see if probate has been filed already. If that is the case, you can get a copy of the record. If it has not been filed, and there is no trust involved (would still require a will to be lodged), you should file for probate in that county.

My only question is whether your father was domiciled in CA or elsewhere at the time of his death, which might change where probate happens.
