Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
Debt owed to deceased person
I have a remaining debt owed to my daughter's grandmother on her father's side that she helped me out with so I wouldn't have to pay interest. I have been paying $300 per month. I still owe $1,000 and she passed away this past December. Do I still owe the debt? It was a personal loan that we signed as an agreement between us.
Thank you for your consideration.

Re: Debt owed to deceased person
Her estate is still entitled to payment.
Re: Debt owed to deceased person
Generally, the debt will continue to be owed to the person's estate and must be included in the valuation of their estate.
This may depend on the type of debt and what it encompasses.

Re: Debt owed to deceased person
Unless your contract said otherwise, the debt is usually owed to her estate under the same terms and conditions as when she was alive.
