Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
Deceased credit card debt
A lady died and left me her trailer to pay her final expenses out of state. I did. I just sold the trailer. In the mail came a Chase credit card bill for $22,000.00, she had no relatives. I am not related. Am I responsible for this? She only has a trailer no personal property.

I assume there was no probate and no Will. How much time passed between her death and your getting the bill? Was there any money left over from the sale of the trailer that did not go to paying her bills?
You personally are not liable for her debts. One would think that she would tell you of that bill; any chance her credit card was stolen? Call Chase and tell them the situation. You might have to pay over to them the profit left from the sale of the trailer but you should also try to get Chase to agree to pay you a reasonable hourly rate for all the work you did, as otherwise they would have not heard anything. I have no idea if it was a house trailer, carrying trailer, fixed mobile home, etc., so whether it sold for much money or not.
